Privacy Policy

ZimDrive (“we”, “us”) operates the ZimDrive rider app and the ZimDrive Driver app. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what control you have.

1. Information we collect

Account information

Your name, email address, phone number and password when you register. Passwords are stored only as a cryptographic hash and are never readable by us or by our staff.

Drivers additionally provide a date of birth, operating city, mobile-money payout number, and verification documents — driver’s licence, vehicle registration, vehicle photographs and a selfie.

Location

Riders: we collect precise location when you set a pickup point or destination, so we can show the map, suggest places, and calculate your fare.

Drivers: we collect precise location continuously while you are online, including when the app is in the background or your screen is off. This is what allows us to match you to nearby ride requests and lets your passenger watch you approaching. A permanent notification is displayed on your device whenever this is happening, and collection stops the moment you go offline.

Trip information

Pickup and destination, route, distance, fare, vehicle class, and the time and status of each ride.

Payment information

Your ZimDrive wallet balance and transaction history, and the mobile number used for mobile-money payments. We never receive or store your card details, mobile-money PIN, or any payment credential — payments are processed entirely by Paynow.

Technical information

Crash reports and diagnostic data, used to keep the apps working.

We may also disclose information where required by law, or where necessary to protect the safety of our users or the public.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

4. Where your data is held

Our servers are located in Amazon Web Services’ Ireland region (eu-west-1), and our error monitoring is hosted in the European Union. By using ZimDrive you consent to your information being transferred to and processed outside Zimbabwe.

5. How long we keep it

Account and trip information is retained while your account is active. Financial records — wallet transactions, top-ups and payouts — are retained even after an account is closed, because we are required to keep them for accounting, tax and dispute resolution. Operational logs are deleted automatically after 30 days.

6. Your choices and rights

You can review and update your account details at any time in the app.

You may withdraw location permission in your device settings. Please note the apps cannot function without it — a ride cannot be requested, matched or completed without a location.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account in the app (Profile → Delete account), or request deletion at https://zimdrive.org/delete-account or by emailing privacy@zimdrive.org — no app installation required.

When you delete your account we remove your name, email address, phone number, and any uploaded photographs or documents. Financial transaction records are retained in anonymised form where accounting rules require it; they are no longer linked to your identity.

Any remaining wallet balance is forfeited when you delete your account. Please withdraw or spend it first if you wish to keep it.

We respond to deletion requests within 30 days.

7. Security

Data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS, and encrypted at rest. Passwords are hashed. Access to production systems is restricted, logged and audited.

No system is perfectly secure. If we become aware of a breach affecting your personal data, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.

8. Children

ZimDrive is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to this policy

We will post any changes on this page and update the date above. Material changes will also be notified in the app.
